97pts Robert Parker, Jr's Wine Advocate

Robert Parker, Jr's Wine Advocate:  "This is another beautiful creation from the Gaja family. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda (Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc) is infinitely smooth and finely textured down to the very last pixel in what is a high-resolution panoramic photograph. The core of the wine is packed tight with an explosion of flavor and concentration with so much dark fruit, spice, tobacco and sweet tobacco that unfurls from deep inside. This wine will have a long and, I am quite sure, very happy aging future ahead. It shows utmost precision and balance, with long persistence and a beautifully polished texture. Some 22,000 bottles were made." May 2019

Winery:  "The previous vintage, 2015, introduced our new blend direction for this wine, with a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Coupled with the Cabernet Franc, these wines are more precise and straightforward. With the warm weather we experienced in both years, the wines clearly show off the great potential of the Bolgheri terroir, by far the best expressions of this label to date. The wine will have a very long life ahead, easily 15 to 20 years, probably longer if cellared properly. Richness and concentration are the features, but these are balanced by powerful structure and well-integrated acidity.

Aroma:  Ripe red fruits and loamy balsamic notes open up to hints of fresh violets and strawberry, typical of great Cabernet Franc. These aroma’s are embracing and persistent as well.

Taste:  Juicy and complex right away, the aromatic features come to the front in a very harmonized mid-palate impression. The high flavor concentration is well balanced to engaging acidity and firm but forgiving tannins. Blackberry, blueberry, licorice and blood orange flavors persist through the lengthy finish, leaving no doubt about this wines strong personality. Fermentation: The two varieties ferment and macerate separately for 15 days.

Aging:  After 18 months ageing in oak, the two varieties are blended together and then aged for several months in the bottle before being released."
