Craving a charcuterie burger hot off the grill with caramelized onions and melted sharp cheddar cheese on top? So are we, and this Paul Jaboulet Aine De Pere en Filles Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu is the perfect pairing to go with it. If it's sweltering like it is here, we sometimes pop the bottle in the fridge for 15 minutes before we eat, and it's just what the doctor ordered. It goes with so much more too, like marinated, spatchcocked chicken done on the grill or pulled pork sliders with a creamy slaw topping. Bon appetit winelovers!
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu De Pere en Filles is a full-bodied, open-knit blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah. Hints of alfalfa appear on the nose, while the flavors trend more toward plummy black cherries. Rich and ripe yet easy to drink, it finishes with mouthwatering length. Drink 2018-2022.” Nov 2018
Winery: "Bright purple color. The nose reveals notes of blackberry and blackcurrant with aromas of peony and violet, a great delicacy. The palate is generous, full of sweetness, the tannins are smooth to finish on spicy aromas.
History: "The vineyards developed in the Middle Ages, in particular, under the influence of the Knights Templar. Chapels and religious communities were established all around Plan de Dieu. The monks cultivated the vines under the protection of God, a heavenly sign or benediction, and the wines quickly became ever more highly renowned for their quality. The first vintage of this cuvée is 2009."
