Querciabella has been making Chianti Classico since 1974, and you will not want to miss the 2016 vintage. Talk about a phenomenal value winelovers; we say run, don't walk! They've crafted a gorgeous, well-rounded red with structure, full body and mothwateringly ripe fruit. Pour your first glass and maybe go Italian for round one: we love this sip-inspiring Chianti Classico with mixed antipasti like fried eggplant, fresh fava beans with pancetta, roasted peppers and Prosciutto. Be careful; you might not make it to the entree... If you're able to pace yourselves, this Querciabella will pair beautifully with lots of cheeses, red meats and tomato-based sauces. We love it with baked rigatoni with eggplant, peas and ground veal. On the woodsy, earthy side, it is fantastic with papardelle sauced with tomatoes, white wine, carrots and wild duck. An oven-roasted leg of lamb with potatoes will delight as well. As a final note, pour another glorious glass of this stunning ruby red and enjoy it with a subtly nutty, salty Italian Grana Padano cheese. La vita è breve. Bere Chianti Classico!

Wine Spectator: "Saturated black cherry and plum flavors are framed by earth, iron and tar notes in this dense, powerful red. Shows depth and a solid structure, but this is tightly packed and should be forgotten about for another three years. Best from 2024 through 2040." May 2020

Antonio Galloni's Vinous:  "The 2016 Chianti Classico is an explosion of floral-infused aromatics and red-toned fruit, all in the super-classic mid-weight style that is such a signature of the Querciabella house style today. Rose petal, lavender, mint and sweet raspberry fruit are pushed to the forefront. This is the first vintage in which more than half of the wine was aged in larger format oak ranging from tonneau to cask. Vineyards in Gaiole and Greve form the core of the blend, with a touch of fruit from Radda. The 2016 has enough freshness to drink well for another decade plus, but I would give it a few years in bottle for the bright acids to integrate a bit further. There are a number of pricier wines in Querciabella's range, but I am not sure any of them can match the Chianti Classico for pure pleasure. What a lovely wine it is. Drinking window: 2021-2031." Feb 2019

Winery:  "Ample rain and cool temperatures in the winter were followed by dry, perfect spring conditions which lead to even bud burst throughout the valley. Summer was dry with sporadic rainfall. Heat spike early in the summer kept bunches small resulting in a lower yield and beautiful fruit concentration with lively acidity."
