Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chianti Classico Bottesola N. 46 is a wine made from a single cask (from 90% Sangiovese with smaller parts Colorino and Canaiolo). That vessel (botte number 46) reveals more contouring and tightness (compared to botte number 27 also tasted here). It shows focused aromas of wild cherry, plum and dark spice. You still taste that fruity exuberance that comes from the hot 2015 vintage, but this wine is slightly more contained, subdued and elegant overall. I am giving this wine a slightly longer drinking window compared to the other wine, although the two are very similar. Drink 2018-2030. Only 2,666 bottles were produced." Oct 2018
Trade Notes: "The style of the Rodáno Chianti bottlings is quite traditional, with Sangiovese playing a dominant role in all of the estate’s various bottlings. The Chianti Classico “normale” is aged entirely in large Slovenian “botte,” and the Riserva is a combination of these large casks and used barriques. Like all great traditional Sangiovese-based wines, the Rodáno wines offer up lovely, bright acidity that adds freshness and focus on the palate, and makes them outstanding partners at the table. The heart and soul of their vineyard holdings is the beautifully situated vineyard of Viacosta, which is a perfect, south-facing bowl of old vines, that average between thirty-five and forty-five years of age. In top vintages, the Rodáno Riserva Chianti bottling is made from the Viacosta vineyard."
