2015: 95pts Jeb Dunnuck
Long Shadows is the name of a portfolio of 7 brands that began in 2000 as an exercise to demonstrate the world class quality of Washington State viticulture. In 2003, Allen Shoup selected master winemakers from around the world whom he felt could showcase the pinnacle of what the noble varietals/blends, grown on the best sites in the Columbia Valley, could achieve. He partnered with each of them on their projects and gave them creative license and necessary resources to develop each project as they saw fit. Every year each of the wines receives high ratings from highly esteemed wine publications. John Duval of Penfolds Grange and John Duval Wines is responsible for the Sequel Syrah 2015. Don't miss out winelovers!

Jeb Dunnuck: "Incorporating 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Sequel Syrah wasn’t destemmed and spent 18 months in 65% new French oak. Its inky purple color is followed by a huge nose of blackberry liqueur, espresso roast, scorched earth, and dark chocolate. This is followed by a full-bodied, beautiful Syrah that has remarkable freshness and purity, fine tannin, and a great, great finish. It's always a pedal-to-the-metal effort, yet the 2015 stays beautifully fresh and lively on the palate. This is certainly one of the finest vintages to date. Drink 2018-2030." Apr 2018

Winery: "Deeply concentrated with vibrant aromas and flavors of dark cherries, wild blackberries, smoked meats and spicy oak. A rich layer of silky tannins coat the palate without overshadowing the wine’s bright and lively character.

2015 was a very warm vintage, so winemaker John Duval crafted half this blend from the Yakima Valley, one of Washington’s cooler AVAs, relying on Boushey (32%) and Den Hoed (18%) vineyards to give the wine its bright, lively character and refined elegance. Bacchus Vineyard Syrah, grown on a south-facing block planted in 1993, adds dark color and richness. A Shiraz clone from Sonnet Vineyard at the Benches, along with a small amount of Candy Mountain Vineyard Syrah, contributes power and concentration. Dionysus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its backbone."
