91pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

Grapes from four different vineyards have been masterfully woven together to give us this Catena Malbec. This classic Malbec has it all: ripe red fruit, floral aromas, and a hint of pepper, all wrapped up in great structure and an intense, lush mouthfeel. Pair it with sweet barbecue dishes and grilled meats, sausage and even tuna. While you're contemplating the possibilities, luxuriate in a glass with a sturdy Pecorino cheese and some black olives. After you've whet your appetites, we suggest roast duck with sausage and lentils. To play up the pepper nuance, a great choice is Korean short ribs with sesame oil, soy sauce, onions and garlic. Delicioso. This smooth red works well with rich pastas too. We love it with pappardelle served with a tomato-based lamb ragout. If you're in the mood for something simple, the Catena is perfect with a mushroom or sausage pizza, or one with both! That Pecorino will do just as good a job finishing the meal as it will starting it. Or, you could have a chocolate molten dessert with your last glass... Savory or sweet winelovers?

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The impressive 2015 Catena Malbec is subtle, balanced and elegant. It mixes fruit from many different zones, with the grapes from the higher part of Valle de Uco fermented with full clusters, the medium part (Vista Flores, lower La Consulta) destemmed and put together with the full clusters from the higher altitude vineyards and the lower parts totally destemmed and in stainless steel. This is a complex blend that showcases the typicity of Malbec in the province of Mendoza with perfumed notes of violets and black cherries, and a touch of spices. The palate has great balance, elegance and subtleness with very fine tannins. Great value for money. The production figures are truly impressive as this is in the ballpark of one million bottles per year. Drink date: 2016 - 2020." Dec 2016

: "A Blend of Four Vineyards - vineyards are divided into lots that are harvested at different times:
    • Lunlunta 3,018 ft (920m) elevation: ripe plum fruit flavors and silky texture.
    • Agrelo 3,117 ft (950 m) elevation: dark fruit character, dense mid-palate and pepper notes.
    • Altamira en La Consulta 3,593 ft (1,095 m) elevation: black cherry aromas and excellent structure.
    • Gualtallary 4,757 ft (1,450 m) elevation: explosive floral aromatics and full, concentrated mouthfeel."
