A heady melange of dark fruits... and lavish levels of toasty oak; while certainly a 'more is more' style of wine, the detail is evident with its light touch and the finish is very long. ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Whether you open your first bottle now or in 5 years, you will most definitely be impressed by the stunning density and myriad of rich, gorgeous flavor in this Elderton Single Vineyard Command Shiraz. And we love what Mr. Halliday describes as the 'more is more' style. It's making our hearts thump just thinking about it. Give those first glasses a few moments to rest and respire as you prepare a platter of crispy duck spring rolls with a sweet and spicy Hoisin dipping sauce. How's that heart rate now? Moving along to the entree, the beautifully bold fruit, earthy oak, spice and mineral notes of this Aussie Shiraz combine to require meaty fare such as lamb, sausage, duck and venison. Our first choice hands down is a Moroccan lamb barbecue with a charmoula (spice paste) of cumin, garlic, cinnamon, ginger and more. This voluptuous Elderton will absolutely intoxicate you next to the exotic flavors of this lamb. Hearty pasta dishes pair beautifully with this Single Vineyard Shiraz also, so we recommend thick spaghetti with a wild mushroom-tomato sauce and just sprinkle of red pepper flakes. And finally, if it's easy you want, we say fire up the grill for some burgers with lots of salt and pepper. Top them generously with tangy ketchup and because you're having them with a glass of this Command Shiraz, you are guaranteed that the meal will be memorable. This Elderton red is so delicious, we sometimes like to have a lone glass as a closer to the meal. If you're hungry for a bit more, bring out a potent smoked Gouda cheese. Calling all hedonists!!

James Halliday: "A heady melange of dark fruits, licorice, anise and lavish levels of toasty oak; the palate is full of warm, ripe fruitcake character, with plenty of concentration; while certainly a 'more is more' style of wine, the detail is evident with its light touch and the finish is very long." Aug 2011

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Command Shiraz comes from 1894 Shiraz plantings of a single estate owned block of 8 acres. It spends 3 years in 100% new oak, 65% American, 35% French. Deep garnet-purple colored, it displays moderate to intense blackberry preserve and dried mulberry aromas with an undercurrent of anise, Indian spices, yeast extract and black pepper. Full bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, it has a medium level of velvety tannins, refreshing acid and a very long, very spicy finish. Drink it now to 2021+." Feb 2012

Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "Glass-staining ruby. High-pitched aromas of crystallized black and blue fruits, violet and allspice, with suave vanilla and mocha qualities adding richness. Deeply concentrated dark fruit flavors are impressively lithe and precise, with peppery spice and minerality providing lift. Finishes smooth and sweet, with lingering blueberry and floral pastille notes and striking clarity." Jul 2012

Winery: "2008 was a hot summer and one of the earliest vintages on record. The 2008 Command shows exceptional fruit weight, with more time in French oak than in the past. It will be a long lived wine!"

Trade: "With powerful lashings of chocolate, violet and a shock of cedar the 2008 Command vintage is a rich and generous wine. It starts with dark chocolate that leads the way into plums and spicy black pepper flavors, persisting through to a fleshy finish. It’s held together beautifully with refinement and amazing focus…an intellectual wine that makes you think about the history in the glass before you. Deconstruct each sip, reverse the steps in your mind, from the liquid to barrel, the stomping, the plucking, the vines, the roots, the soil that all sprung together to create this masterpiece of lusciousness. The Command is an expression of place, an exclamation of spirit and a legacy that the family will preserve for generations to come."
