     Feudo Montoni’s Nero d’Avola Lagnusa and Vrucara: A Definitive Tasting of Two Great Italian Reds: "Feudo Montoni is one of Italy’s best but still relatively little known estates. In fact, despite boasting a lineup of great wines and having been around for some time, Feudo Montoni (the winery is housed in a villa that dates back to 1469) does not enjoy the fame and visibility of Sicily’s many larger wineries. I have no doubt that this will all change soon enough, because there are few estates anywhere in Italy making more compelling wines today. Owner Fabio Sireci isn’t just passionate and knowledgeable, he is also extremely talented. That skill is attested to by a rare degree of proficiency with a number of different Sicilian native varieties. Feudo Montoni’s Grillo, Insolia and Cataratto wines are also amongst the best examples of their respective grape varieties. However, it is with Nero d’Avola that Sireci attains his greatest results. Sireci’s two Nero d’Avolas, Lagnusa and Vrucara, rank alongside Italy’s best reds."

    Antonio Galloni's Vinous review of Lagnusa: "Vivid ruby-red. Enticing nose offers blueberry, violet, peppercorn, licorice, and blood orange. Silky and soil-driven, with a refined, saline quality to the blue and black fruit flavors and a bright, precise finish. A wine about finesse and thrust rather than power, this has opened up and deepened since I tasted it for the first time about two years ago.  Drinking window: 2017 - 2023" Sep 2017

    Winery: "Ruby red in color. Its structure does not want to conquer with strength, but with elegance. A complex perfume with notes of fruit and spices, that are in harmony with one another. The boldest aroma is of cinnamon. Notes of menthol amplify the freshness of the taste. It is soft, velvety, sapid and is laced with the right amount of tannin on the palate. Food parings: Red meats, roasts, game, tuna, salumi and aged cheeses. Temperature of consumption: 18-20º C.  Oxygenate the wine at least one hour before serving."
