"It's a terrific bargain that should drink well for several more years." ~ Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

Parker's Wine Advocate calls this Lilac Wine by Jeff Carrel (maker of one of our all-time favorites - Les Darons) a "terrific bargain", while Jeb Dunnuck tags it a "rock-solid value". It's ready to drink now and we think the beautiful fruit and florality of this perfectly balanced French red blend, along with its stellar minerality and acidity make for an ideal wine to buy by the case. It goes with everything from spaghetti and meatballs to roast chicken, pan-seared pork chops, duck ragu with papardelle, grilled octopus, bacon cheeseburger sliders and more. Use your imagination winelovers, because as the ratings have let us know, this Roussillon red is a no-brainer...

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "Living up to its name, the 2016 Lilac Wine is floral and surprisingly delicate for a wine that tips the scales at 15% alcohol. A blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah, it sees only larger-format wood, leaving the purity of its mixed-berry and spice elements unvarnished by oak. It's a terrific bargain that should drink well for several more years. Drink 2018-2023." Apr 2018

Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Rouge from Jeff Carrel checks in as a blend of 45% Carignan, 30% Grenache, and 25% Syrah that was manually harvested and aged in large oak casks. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of blueberries, blackberries, crushed violets and wet stone. Medium-bodied, supple and juicy, with lively acidity and a great finish, it's an elegant, balanced Roussillon to drink over the coming 4-5 years (2017-2024).

Both releases from Carrel showed beautifully, possessing terrific depth and fruit and loads of character. They’re also rock-solid values." Sept 2017

Winery:  "Offers both freshness and ripeness, with layers of dark berry fruit (plums, blackberry) and hints of violets and licorice. Smooth, soft, structured, and very polished on the palate, with a long, persistent finish.

Serve With: A versatile food wine that will work splendidly with a wide range of meats (smoked duck breast, pepper-rubbed bison steak) and vegetarian fare (eggplant and tomato confit, grilled maitake mushrooms brushed with garlic and olive oil)."

Namesake: "Lilac Wine is one the newest addiitons to Jeff Carrel's increasingly eclectic portfolio. Loaded with layers of dark berry fruit, the name of this inky, fragrant wine was inspired by singer Nina Simone's rendition of this much-covered song."
