The Maculan family has been crafting wines in the Veneto region of Italy for three generations. Their Maculan Veneto Fratta is a Bordeaux-Style red with smooth tannins, solid backbone, and an enticing mix of dark fruit, herbal notes, and some delicate earthiness. Try it with a lamb shawarma sandwich or steak tacos. Of course, it's right at home with a meaty pasta dish like fettucine bolognaise or a classic lasagne. Duck confit with a tart cherry confit gets a little fancier, and is just as delicious. As they say in the Veneto, cent'anni winelovers!

James Suckling: "Very attractive blueberry and blackberry character with hints of hazelnuts, following through to a medium body, dense center palate and a clean finish. Delicious. Drink or hold." Nov 2018

Wine Spectator: "Pleasing hints of dried mint and graphite lead to flavors of baked currant, espresso and mineral in this medium to full-bodied red, with sculpted tannins. Shows good density and length in an elegant package. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2028. 250 cases made." May 2018

Winery:  Color: rich ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose: the wine carries intense aromas of red berries, bilberries and raspberries, along with spicy notes of cocoa and coffee. In the mouth: a balanced expression of fine-grained tannins, and full-bodied, flavourful elegance. Perfect with grilled or roasted red meats or aged cheeses."

Trade Notes: "The Maculan Fratta appeals to an inner hedonist. The wine is made from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot grown in estate vineyards around Breganze, a charming Venetian wine village located along the foothills of the Dolomites. Fermented in stainless steel and then aged for one year new in French oak barriques, the Fratta is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its beautiful profile, which has become legendary among connoisseurs."
