Pay attention winelovers, it's not often that you have an opportunity to partake of a "sensational, beautifully proportioned, creamy" wine such as this O'Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Enough talking. Open your first bottle and stand back as the stupendous flavors make their entrance. A fitting partner for your first taste is a terrine of short rib meat slow-cooked with smoked paprika and garlic, served with tangy caper berries and thinly sliced crusty bread. That ought to be an appropriate introduction to the magnificent density and forest floor in this Napa Cabernet. Moving on, the myriad of black fruit, crème de cassis, minerals, full body and world class weight and finish require serious meaty fare such as lamb, beef, game and steak. We hope you're hungry. If you're thinking ahead to the holidays, we can't conceive of a better wine for a showstopping standing rib roast with spinach-porcini stuffing and two mushroom sauce. Offer it with full glasses, a golden potato gratin and French beans with caramelized shallots on the side and watch as sheer delight commandeers the room. Bring out the fruit in this O'Shaughnessy with medallions of venison with port and cranberries. If a little less labor is your choice, we highly recommend an easy Provencal leg of lamb. Roast it with tomatoes, onions, rosemary, thyme and mustard and a little drizzle of honey while you have another glass of this Howell Mountain red. Offer the lamb with a creamy gorgonzola polenta and your guests might never leave. Bring on even more happy with a mile-high dark chocolate cake with espresso fudge buttercream, and of course, another bottle. Just one more thing: have the smelling salts on hand; there is great likelihood of swooning...

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is redolent of warm blackberries and black cherries with hints of Indian spices, fertile soil, cedar and hoisin. Big, full-bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, the concentrated, multilayered fruit is well framed by firm, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.  Drink date:  2017 - 2036."  Oct 2017

Betty O’Shaughnessy bought her property on Howell Mountain in 1996, and ever since 1999 has had the very talented Sean Capiaux making her wines. Her vineyards on Howell Mountain sit at a high elevation of just under 2000 feet in the red, rocky, volcanic soils the area is known for. I have always been a big fan of these wines, as they are full-flavored but incredibly pure and well-balanced." Dec 2016

Winery: "O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery sits at 1,800 feet on the heralded Howell Mountain appellation in the beautiful Napa Valley. Founded in 1996, the estate encompasses one hundred and twenty acres. Winemaker Sean Capiaux has overseen the planting of the vineyard and selected numerous clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and all seven of the historic Bordeaux varietals for this unique property. O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery uses modern equipment to produce non-interventionist wines that are naturally fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered. These techniques allow the varietal character and terroir of O’Shaughnessy Estate vineyards to be the stars of the show.

The 2015 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby red with an opaque center. The wine opens immediately with fragrant aromas of violets, lavender, dark raspberry, pencil lead and vanilla. Cassis, cocoa, new leather, smoked meat and plum come together with a building mouthfeel full of soft silky tannins combined with focused flavors of dried cranberry, cherry jubilee and wild blackberries."
