Our first choice with this mesmerizing Walter Hansel South Slope Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a confit duck leg with baby spring vegetables and potato gnocchi on the side. It's the perfect homage to the beautiful earthiness in the wine. We just got back from the magical city of New Orleans, where they do a turtle bolognaise with sherry and parsley tossed with bucatini; put the South Slope next to that and you won't want the meal to end. Or how about a lamb and mushroom lasagna? This delicious wine has layers of flavor, and oodles of personality and will delight with everything from a hearty morel risotto, to grilled salmon and beef tenderloin. You just have to pick one. Good luck with that winelovers!

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "Made from 100% Dijon clone 777, the 2015 Pinot Noir South Slope had the largest yields of any of the parcels in 2015, although still way below normal production. The deepest color of many of these Pinot Noirs, the wine has loads of damp earth, spice box and forest floor, this is a deep blue-fruited Pinot with a lovely texture, plenty of body, surprising concentration and richness. This is a stunner from 18-year-old vines. Drink it over the next decade or more (2016-2026).

This is an enviable winery run by Stephen Hansel with exceptionally high-quality Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs that he sells at modest prices, which speaks to his humility and commitment to serious wine consumers. There are more than 80 acres of estate, so it is not small, split evenly between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He breaks the cuvées down by their vineyard terroir/site." Oct 2016

Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "A racy, exuberant wine, the 2015 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard offers a striking expression of the vintage. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, chocolate, sweet spices and French oak build in this voluptuous Pinot Noir. Drink 2018-2025." Apr 2018

Winery:  "The South Slope begins at the highest elevation and the furthest South of all of our Vineyards blocks. It slopes from South to North about 45 feet and it's soils are predominantly sandy loam. The berry size is medium with a high berry count giving cluster weight that has yields approaching 2 1/4 tons/acre (our highest yields). It is 100% French clone 777, and tends to show it's earthy side far more then our other clones. Although this wine definitely has a French origin, each year it becomes more and more new world."
