Allegrini La Poja 2012
95/100 Points, James Suckling
James Suckling: "Lovely depth of fruit and richness here with dark-chocolate, berry and spicy undertones. Full body, soft and polished tannins and a long finish. A superb wine. Fantastic. Drink now." Nov 2016
Wine Spectator: "Rich aromas of smoke, spice and cured tobacco accent crushed black currant and fig cake notes in this finely meshed, elegant red. The focused flavor range provides flesh for the structured tannins, echoing on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2025. 150 cases imported." Nov 2017
Winery: "On the top of the hill called La Grola lies a plateau of less than 3 hectares dazzling white in colour, due to its calcareous top soil, and planted exclusively with Corvina since the late 1970s. The premium quality viticultural techniques yield grapes with great personality and maturity. After over 4 years of ageing, the wine is still extraordinarily fresh and crisp with a full spectrum of aromas ranging from fruit to spices and officinal herbs. Full bodied and luscious, with a long, lingering finish. The inspiration behind this single varietal lies with Giovanni Allegrini and stemmed from his passionate belief in the land on which he lived.
Food Pairings: La Poja makes an ideal accompaniment to roasted red meats and game. It is excellent with aged cheeses, and a perfect match with white or black truffles. Serve at 18°C (64°F) and open the bottle one hour before consumption. Has the potential to age for 18 years."
