"As always, it is great a pleasure to taste the wines of Les Behrens and his flock of wine enthusiasts high on Spring Mountain. They have done innovative work from the beginning, and although they had an almost career-killing problem with plastic corks early on, that is ancient history. Today, they are on a consistent course of high-quality and innovative blends delivering beautiful fruit and pleasure. No doubt the philosophy is based on Les’s restaurant background to deliver pleasure and to eliminate all of the BS that frequently goes with elitist wine talk. It goes without saying that most of the labels are works of art in themselves, often goofy/spooky and at the same time funny and thought-provoking.
Kudos to Les Behrens and his wife, Lisa Drinkward, for having a vision of what they wanted to do 20 years ago, following it meticulously and hopefully succeeding beyond their wildest imagination. I’ve been happy to be the wine critic along for the ride."
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "The 2014 Cemetery, from one of the top sites in St. Helena, is fabulous. Rich and sumptuous to the core, the 2014 possesses tremendous depth, not to mention pedigree. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and exotic spice flesh out in this resonant, virile Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking window: 2020 - 2034." Mar 2018
Winery: "The 2014 Cemetery is lively, expressive and chock full of aromas of black currant, cassis, rose petals and white pepper. Dark and concentrated with complex layers of sassafras, cola and black stone fruits, this powerful wine is exquisitely balanced with lush yet persistent tannins and a long creamy mocha finish. We are really digging all that this distinctive vineyard, adjacent to the St Helena cemetery, has to offer."
