99pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate.:  "The flagship wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill, 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, is a stunner and one of the great, great 2014s. Inky purple with blueberry and blackberry fruit, cassis, licorice, graphite and white flowers, the wine is stunningly concentrated, full-bodied and seemingly one of the greatest of the 2014s. Still youthful, with at least 25-30 years of upside potential at the minimum, this is a wine for patient connoisseurs. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2050.

Chappellet is the pioneer that, in the last 1960s, first began planting vineyards on what is now one of the hottest viticultural regions of Napa Valley – Pritchard Hill. Even though Pritchard Hill isn’t entitled to an AVA, there is no question that the 15 or 16 wineries are up there are producing world-class wines, and it all started with the efforts of Molly and Don Chappellet in the late 1960s. The 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon they made with the help of Philip Togni remains one of the greatest Napa Cabernet Sauvignons I have ever tasted, and is still vigorous at age 47!"  Dec 2016

Winery:  "The most sought-after wine in our portfolio, this limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon represents the pinnacle of Chappellet winemaking and embodies the elegant power and complexity of Pritchard Hill winegrowing. Like the great Bordeaux wines that first inspired Donn Chappellet, this wine is crafted by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with other classic Bordeaux varietals. The wine was aged for 22 months in 100 percent new French oak. Grown on our rocky, mountainside vineyard, our Cabernets have consistently displayed an ability to age for several decades.

This is a classic expression of mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon that combines exceptional structure and richness with elegant purity and poise. The aromas are decadent and concentrated, displaying layers of crème de cassis, blackberry and boysenberry, as well as notes of chocolate, espresso, cigar box and sweet oak.  The ripe dark berry elements are echoed on the voluptuous palate, where they are underscored by mouth-coating tannins and hints of vanilla, toasted oak, clove, nutmeg and anise, all of which carry through to a lingering finish that is both smooth and spicy."
