93+pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

The medium body of this magnificent Mencia won't need food to satisfy; the delectable array of flavors and its fresh, balanced nature will do that all by itself. Did we mention it's a great price for this Parker rating??! If you felt like whipping something up, the beautiful balance and subtle wow of this Petalos would go beautifully with mushroom toasts, or Italian-style chicken liver crostini with caramelized, thin-sliced shallots on top. And that could be all you need... Pan-roasted chicken with garlic, white wine and rosemary would be a terrific partner for this P̩etalos if you needed something more. Or grilled pork tenderloin with mustard and tarragon. Your choice. But as they say in Spain, no se lo pierda winelovers!! Pull on those shopping boots and go to town!

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "Their regional wine achieves unheard of levels of complexity and nuance with the 2018 Pétalos del Bierzo. This is the wine that showcases the house style and the character of the vintage, which, in this case, is delicate and very much from the zone. There is an aromatic purity and elegance that is very captivating with a faint flinty background, the cherry essence (Mediterranean) and a touch of fern (Atlantic) plus a honeyed twist that shows up after a couple of hours in the glass. It has a silky texture, soft and caressing, with very fine tannins and the faint bitter twist in the finish. In an ideal world, this should be the first wine people drink from Bierzo, and fortunately, in many cases, it is, given the availability, even if they did a more severe selection. Drink 2020-2025.

The Descendientes de J. Palacios wines from 2018 are the best collection they have produced since they set foot in Bierzo in 1999. And to understand my excitement, let me just summarize it as the best vintage ever of the most coherent, reliable and serious wine project in Spain. Simply breathtaking. Bravo!!" Jun 2020
