94pts & Top 100 Wine of 2016 Wine Spectator

"Iconic, to say the least, this Cune (CVNE) Gran Reserva Rioja is the stuff of dreams... We say open your beautiful bottle and give it some air while you prepare a big plate of patatas con chorizo to munch with your first glass. It's a favorite tapas of ours. We could wax poetic about the many layers and flavors of this stunning Spaniard, but in a nutshell, it's great with meaty fare. You can choose to play up the rich, dark fruit, the silky tannins, the toasted oak, or just the depth and fullness of the wine. Fettucine bolognaise is a no-brainer which will have everyone coming back to reload their plates. Be sure you've got a very good Parmigiano, and grate it fresh; the effort is well worth it. We recommend grilling rib-eye steaks and just before serving, drizzle them with a top-shelf, aged balsamic. It's a memorable combination. And if you're saving a bottle for a meal during colder temps, we say fill your glasses to go with a roasted loin of venison with prunes. For your last course, we would savor your last glass or two with an English Stilton and a crusty peasant bread.

Wine Spectator
:  Designated Top 100 Wine 2016, #22 Rank. "This generous red shows a traditional character, with leafy, dried herb, tea and spice notes framing dried cherry, licorice and leather flavors. Firm tannins and balsamic acidity impart structure, and this shows plenty of depth, with a juicy, spicy finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases imported." Jul 2016

Winery: "Aging in cask 24 months and aging in bottle 36 months before going to market. Made from hand selected grapes from our vineyards in Rioja Alta. The color and structure is obtained after alcoholic fermentation maceration. The malolactic fermentation gives the wine suitable for mature aged in American and French oaks. Before being bottled, traditionally clarified with egg whites. Finally passed into our drafts which will age under conditions suitable temperature and humidity until the time of going to market.

Intense dark cherry color, with a top layer of color. Attractive aromas of berries, like blackberries, black currant, raspberry, all is joined together with the spices aromas from its ageing in the barrel. Its a complex wine very attractive on the palate, elegant with fine tannins."
