97-98pts Antonio Galloni's Vinous

From the world-renowned house of Huet, widely considered to be the pre-eminent producer of Vouvray, we have the Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Moelleux 1er Trie Vouvray.

Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "The 2020 Clos du Bourg Première Trie comes from a warm parcel and a warm vintage, meaning that the grapes were a little quicker to ripen than the norm – but it's still outstanding. A richly, slightly smoky example with pineapple, orange, florals and agave nectar. Huge intensity and lots of sweet fruit (90g/L), yet it doesn't become lush or heavy, the acidity still making your mouth water in spite of that sucrosity. There's a fine chalky texture that lingers on the long finish. While it's already a delight to encounter now, the combination of acidity and sweetness means this can go on and on. Tasted over three days as an unfinished sample, it was still fresh as a daisy. While it didn't elicit the perfect 100-point goosebumps, there's not a lot to fault here. Drinking window: 2021-2051." Mar 2021

Winery: "A deep and vibrant color. On the nose, subtle floral essences and tasty aromas of jammy apricot sets the tone of this wine. The palate is creamy and pure and a beautiful balance of Chenin, with aromas of rhubarb and a spicy finish."

Trade Notes: "Appearance: Straw yellow. Nose: Intense, developing, honey, stone fruits, tea. Mouthfeel: Medium Bodied, medium sweet, medium-high acidity, intense, endless finish, quince, pineapple, mineral.

If your Vouvray Moelleux is the star, keep the food pairing supportive and complimentary. Fresh goat cheese drizzled with honey, a bowl of hazelnuts and a thickly sliced apple, to start.

Importer: "Huet is THE estate of Vouvray. If I had to pick only one white wine producer in our entire book it would be Huet."
