93 Points, Wine Advocate "The 2018 Barolo embarks on a straightforward performance initially, and the wine gains in complexity as it opens in the glass. The bouquet is elegant and tapered with wild berry, spice and licorice. It is ample in terms of mouthfeel, delivering medium texture and depth. Classic and elegant are two appropriate descriptors. The estate released 12,000 bottles in this vintage."
Distributor Notes: "Joining other top producers of the appellation, Gianfranco, Vittoria and Marta Alessandria have decided to dedicate a space for storing a library selection of wines that will be part of a late-release program. This important trend is gaining traction in Barolo, as consumers increasingly want to buy older vintages of Barolo directly from the wineries. The Alessandria family is restoring their grandparents' old farmhouse in San Giovanni (in Monforte d'Alba) for this purpose."
Winery: "Az. Ag. Gianfranco Alessandria holds 7 hectares of vineyards divided between Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, in the località San Giovanni, the area of some of Monforte d'Alba's best known Crus. The Alessandria family, including the enterprising daughters Marta and Vittoria, farms based on natural principles, respecting the time and methods required to produce stunning wines true to their soils. They work as organically as possible only using minimal amounts of sulfur and copper out of respect for the environment and health."
