92pts Wine Enthusiast
The history of the Hugel family's wine producing affiliation dates back to 1639. Together, the centuries and generations of the Hugel family have brought us to this point; the Hugel name is one of great renown and respect when it comes to their Alsatian Rieslings. The Hugel Classic Riesling is one of impeccable balance. Gorgeous acidity balances the delicious fruit, and beautiful minerality only makes this wine more food friendly. Try your first glass solo, so that you may truly enjoy the many layers of flavor. And perhaps bring out the crab cake bites for your second glass. Coq au Riesling is a wonderful entree option. Sautee chicken legs and drumsticks with a Riesling, creme fraiche and mushroom sauce, topped with a sprinkle of fresh tarragon. Your palate will rejoice! Sauteed red snapper with a tomato-bell pepper salsa is another great option. If you'd like to go in a richer direction, we support that wholeheartedly and recommend foie gras on brioche toast with a tart cherry-port reduction. Mangeons winelovers!

Wine Enthusiast: "Glints of very ripe, juicy pear and clementine on the nose turn into aromatic mandarin on the lively, open and absolutely fruit-laden palate that has both the juiciness and tartness of ripe citrus. Despite the light body the fruit fills mouth and mind. The finish is dry, clean, fresh and has a tropical echo." Aug 2018

Wine Spectator:  Designated Smart Buy. "A sleek, minerally, light-bodied white, with lemon peel and petrol accents to the well-cut flavors of apricot, acacia blossom, sliced almond and pine forest, followed by a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2028. 8,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported." Dec 2018

Winery:  "The Famille Hugel signature wine. This dry Riesling stands out for its finesse and frankness and is the ideal partner to fish and seafood thanks to its wonderful balance and elegance. It is our most demanding variety as it is also the latest ripening. Dry and elegant, it expresses itself best on our steepest slopes with the most complex minerality."
