Our latest find, Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon, is a silky, smooth mouthful of delicious California Cab. It's a beautiful bottle too, if you need to bring a hostess gift, or just want a great conversation starter. Because the vines are on hillsides, they have to be very hearty and put up with getting very little water. The payoff is loads of concentrated flavor; that's what had us at hello when we tried this Juggernaut. Cheddar cheeseburger sliders with caramelized onions and chipotle mayo are just the ticket for your first glass. If you're so inclined, stay on the beef track and do an entree of red wine braised short ribs. The secret to making them extra delicious? Saute some pancetta and use that fat to cook down the mirepoix. Keep the actual pancetta in the pot as you braise the meat to take it to the next level altogether. Lollipop lamb chops done on the grill with a wild mushroom risotto on the side is another delicious option. As is a steaming bowl of pappardelle tossed with a boar ragu. How will you ever decide?

Winery:  "Flavor profile:  Luxurious texture with black currants and vanilla. Aromatics: Licorice and blackberry. French oak beautifully transforms intense mountain fruit into a wine with uncommon richness, yet smooth and luxurious texture. Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet is a wine that is fierce, brave, and delicious.

Steep hillside vineyards present the ultimate challenge. Mountainous terrain tests both the grower and the vine. But the results can be extraordinary. Hillside vineyards have less access to water, with the rockier soil also holding fewer nutrients. These conditions stress the vines, resulting in the production of a fraction of the fruit of most vineyards. The harsh environment causes the vines to struggle, yielding fewer clusters and smaller berry size. Since most of the flavor resides in the grape skins, the result is berries that are loaded with rich, ripe, intensely concentrated flavors and complexity."
