We had a bottle of this Ludovicus this week with spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious! It's got ripe, dark fruit and is extra juicy, the kind of wine you buy by the case. We will definitely be pouring it with pulled pork sandwiches, bbq ribs from the grill, and sliders topped with cheddar cheese and caramelized onions. At this price, we'll need to come up with some other options because we're going to be seeing a lot more of it...
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: “Opaque ruby. Ripe cherry, blackberry and licorice aromas are energized by a peppery flourish and a hint of pungent flowers. Sweet black and blue fruit and vanilla flavors are given lift by a spine of juicy acidity, and a hint of allspice appears on the back half. The cherry note drives the persistent finish, which features gently chewy tannins and a hint of smokiness. Drink 2021-2026.” Mar 2021
Winery: "This mineral, spicy Mediterranean red drinks like a wine two times its price. It is produced from grapes grown in the high elevation Terra Alta region. These high lands are located just 45 minutes south of Barcelona in the mountains of Tarragona overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Ludovicus pays tribute to the Roman heritage of this region. The Romans planted vineyards in this area during the 3rd century. Terra Alta neighbors the acclaimed Priorat region. Just like in Priorat, garnacha and mazuelo (aka cariñena, or samsó) are the most commonly planted grapes. Garnacha grapes grown in Terra Alta are among the finest in Spain due to high elevation plantings in limestone soil.
This ripe, juicy, vibrantly big-fruited red wine is a crowd pleaser! Ludovicus's easy drinking nature makes it a versatile wine, either with meat and pork main courses or with more casual tapas or small plates."
