We recommend kicking things off with a carne cruda, the Piedmontese style steak tartar. The fresh flavors of the dish will match beautifully with the elegance of the wine. The silky texture and beautiful layers of flavor of this Marziano Abbona San Luigi Dogliani Dolcetto are lovely with rich meats. Calves liver with onions and raisins may sound like an odd combination, but it marries perfectly with the earthiness of the wine as well as its fruit and floral side. Bring your meal to a close with refilled glasses and an Italian Grana Padano cheese. Last but not least, we have to mention another very attractive thing about this Piedmontese red: the price! Winery: "It is produced with Dolcetto grapes only grown in the beautiful vineyards that surround our winery. This vintage favored the Dolcetto’s typical elements, allowing a good production in terms of volumes as well; the harvest took place in the first decade of September. The color is the classic intense ruby red; at the olfactory level the fruity note and the red fruits excel, without hiding floral notes which are a dominant portion of the aromatic complexity. While we taste San Luigi we find an elegant sweetness, in perfect balance with the olfactory notes found, the typical fine but intense acidity of Dogliani and a delicate final tannin. This is an excellent pairing wine, able to exalt and join the whole meal. Serve between 61-64 degrees F."
