We agree with Mr. Asimov and his panel of experts, and consequently recommend this Scharffenberger Brut wholeheartedly. Enjoy a bottle sans food in front of the fireplace/sunset/beach/mountains or in the hot tub... You won't be disappointed. If you're hungry, the fine mousse, white stone fruit, citrus, minerals and delicious yeastiness will pair fabulously with oysters, lobster, chicken, egg dishes, fried foods, sushi, and our personal favorite: caviar. Whether it's to get an event rolling, to accompany the meal, or to bring some festive to brunch, this Scharffenberger is beautiful Brut.

New York Times, Eric Asimov:
"Our No. 1 bottle, the Scharffenberger Excellence Brut, was balanced and graceful with lingering rich, creamy, toasty flavors. It showed restrained power and finesse... our best value." Eric Asimov, "Deft Hands Behind the Bubbles", December 6, 2012

Wine Enthusiast: "This wine shows amazing complexity, subtle richness, layers of flavor and an ultra-smooth texture. A foundation of fruit flavor is very solid, and the acidity is firm and refreshing. The mouthfeel is plush and the finish lingers, making it a grand wine for a special occasion." Nov 2015

Winery: "Scharffenberger Brut Excellence is made by the méthode traditionelle process, whereby the wines are individually bottle-fermented before being riddled and disgorged. Scharffenberger Brut Excellence is made from its own 120-acre vineyards in the Anderson Valley. In addition, Scharffenberger Cellars has long-term contracts with select vineyards in the greater Mendocino County. With this type of vineyard selection, it allows us to produce our trademark cuvée. The wine is approximately 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. The full malolactic style adds a vanilla cream character producing a round and full-bodied wine. After approximately two years on the lees, there are notes of freshly baked bread and pastry that enhances the more fruit forward style of the wine. Finally, after several months on the cork, the wine develops caramel and hazel complexors."
