Stonestreet Estate Chardonnay 2016
In the mood for a multi-faceted Chardonnay that's got some oak, lots of gorgeous stone and citrus fruit, and the perfect amount of balance? The Stonestreet Estate Chardonnay is just what you're looking for. Make it a lunch or light dinner of yogurt-marinated apricot chicken skewers. A starter or main of pumpkin ravioli in a sage brown butter sauce finished with grated amaretti will bring delight to your diners. Grilled veal chops with mushrooms will too. And don't forget! Chardonnay is dreamy with egg dishes, so how about eggs Benny with a twist? Swap out the Canadian bacon with smoked salmon to make it an extra delicious paring. We dare you not to like it.
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay Estate is a terrific introduction to the Stonestreet Chardonnays. Citrus, apricot, mint and a dash of new oak add nuance to this finely cut mountain Chardonnay. The Estate Chardonnay is another wine that delivers serious quality for the money. Silky and textured, the 2016 hits all the right notes. What a gorgeous wine it is. Drink 2019-2024." May 2018
"I was deeply impressed with this set of new releases from Stonestreet and winemaker Lisa Valtenbergs. Specifically, the 2015 Cabernets offer a great deal of freshness for the year. The Chardonnays are also very nicely rendered and also quite distinctive. In short, there is plenty to like." Jul 2018
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "Fermented in barrel and aged 10 months in 36% new French oak, the 2016 Chardonnay Estate has a ripe apple, peach blossom, poached pears and nutmeg-scented nose with a waft of beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is satisfyingly savory with plenty of citrus and mineral accents and a long spicy finish. Drink 2019-2023." Feb 2019
Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chardonnay Estate is another wine sourced from higher elevation sites and was barrel fermented and aged. It offers a classic style in its baked apples, spice, honeycomb, and marzipan profile. Deep, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, and textured, it’s a class act and should keep for 4-6 years." Winery: "As a blend of our best Chardonnay vineyard sites, the Estate bottling is one of the most compelling illustrations of the mountain. Winemaker Lisa Valtenbergs blends this wine with shrewd precision, balancing aromatic intrigue, texture and the Mayacamas’ signature structural elements into a pure reflection of the vintage. The 2016 Estate Chardonnay exhibits honeysuckle and orange creamsicle with subtle salinity. The generous palate finishes long with notes of toffee.
Stonestreet Estate Vineyards stand on the western ridge of the Mayacamas Mountains towering over the Alexander Valley below. High elevations, volcanically derived soils and cooling maritime breezes give us a unique location from which to pursue the quest of mountain winegrowing. Of the 5,100 acres that make up the Estate, only 900 are planted to grapes (235 individual vineyard blocks) while the remaining land retains its natural biodiversity and abounds with stream beds and ancient oaks, providing a habitat to cougars, owls and black bears."
