Champagne is incredibly versatile with food - so when in doubt, drink bubbly!" says the wine director of Chicago's Osteria vi Stato. We couldn't agree more. This Veuve Clicquot masterpiece will dress up everything, whether lobster, eggs, oysters, smoked salmon or fried foods. La Grande Dame is the perfect partner for most hor d'oeuvres you'll be whipping up. Just avoid the sweet ones and red meat, and you can't go wrong. How about bacon-wrapped scallops or tiny Gruyere crepes? For dinner we suggest a warm lobster timbale with a chive cream sauce. Not feeling so fancy? No problem. A platter of beautifully seasoned fried chicken or shrimp will not disappoint. Pop the cork and let your hearts be light...

Wine Spectator: "An elegant Champagne, powered by a sculpted frame of acidity and minerality, this wears the refined, lacy mousse and well-meshed flavors of black currant, lemon curd, toast and marzipan like finely tailored clothing. Fresh and lasting, with hints of spice and smoke on the finish. Disgorged August 2016. Drink now through 2033." Nov 2018

Winery:  "The high percentage of pinot noir lends this vintage champagne extraordinary structure and strength, tempered by a pleasingly fresh minerality, silky texture and elegant complexity.  This magnum is the perfect note on which to start a celebration.  A tribute to Madame Clicquot, La Grande Dame 2008 reflects the best of the maison’s grand cru terroir.  Delicate and rare, it is a champagne with outstanding aging potential.

Pinot noir (92%) and Chardonnay (8%) from six grand cru vineyards – Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, Verzenay and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger – make up this vintage.  A cool and rainy spring and a cool, dry summer created grapes with a remarkable acidity that recalled other extraordinary vintages from the maison.  Aged for 10 years, it has a complexity that will develop further in time."
